Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they are.
If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
